Home-Start South Downs was delighted to receive a donation of £570 from the Uckfield Waitrose Community Matters scheme.
It was one of the nominated Community Matters charities in August in a scheme which sees each Waitrose store donate £1,000 a month to good causes, divided between three organisations.
Customers are given a green token when they pay for their shopping and they can then place it in the collection box for the charity of their choice.
At the end of the month the £1,000 is divided between the three charities according to the number of tokens each one receives.
Marion Lucken, the Wealden District Co-ordinator for Home-Start South Downs, was very happy to be presented with a cheque by Tracey Eves, Waitrose Customer Service Assistant.
Marion said “Without charitable contributions such as this, Home-Start would not be able to support the number of families it does.
“We are committed to continuing to deliver the quality service we do to local families and I’d like to sincerely thank Waitrose Uckfield and all the Waitrose customers who supported us.
“We particularly value local support and are also indebted to our dedicated volunteers and individual supporters, plus the Uckfield Town Council, the Mayor of Crowborough, Sussex Community Foundation, Wealden District Council, East Sussex County Council and Children in Need.”
Home-Start South Downs supports families with young children through whatever difficulties they are experiencing.
Many parents feel overwhelmed by family life and may be struggling with illness, isolation, disability, poverty, bereavement, toddler behavioural issues, multiple births, relationship problems, etc.
A weekly home visit by a trained volunteer for three hours is provided for families with at least one child under five years old.
All volunteers, who provide emotional and practical support, are parents themselves and can empathise with the difficulties that family life sometimes presents, but can also remind families of the pleasures.
They help parents focus on the present and the future and help families to identify and build on their strengths and successes, thus empowering them to find solutions for a better future.
