Waiting for Video...

The new High Sheriff of East Sussex, the oldest secular office appointed by the Crown and dating back more than 1,000 years, made his Declaration of Office at Lewes Law Courts on Monday.

Retired local dentist Chris Gebbie, 68, swore his oath of allegiance to The Queen in a glittering ceremony.

Magistrate Mr Gebbie, of Norlington Court, Norlington Lane, Ringmer, is a former Chairman of the League of Friends of Victoria Hospital and the Sussex Heritage Trust.

Also sworn-in was his West Sussex counterpart, Jonathan Lucas.
