Young folk should step forward for Youth Commission

Wealden MP Charles Hendry has welcomed the introduction of a Youth Commission across Sussex, supported by Police and Crime Commissioner Katy Bourne.

The Youth Commission in Sussex is being set up in partnership with the SHM Foundation, an independent charitable trust. It is one of three pilot schemes in the country, the others being in Leicestershire and Hampshire.

The Commission will set its own priorities over the next few months at an inaugural meeting to be held on February 1. It will comprise 25 representatives from across Sussex aged 14-25. The Commission will also provide a platform for young people to support, inform and challenge the already existing plan to ensure that young people’s voices are heard.

Charles Hendry said: “I fully support this scheme and encourage young people to apply for the Youth Commission as it is important there are representatives from across the county.

“I will be writing to every school in my constituency to encourage them to advertise this to their students. It is essential that young people are heard, especially when it comes to crime, as it is something that affects every community and impacts upon all age groups.”
