A SERVICE set up by Hailsham Town Council to check the suitability of potential employees, volunteers and people working with children or vulnerable adults, has now reached its fifth year in operation.
Hailsham Town Council acts as a registered Umbrella Body with the Criminal Records Bureau (CRB), enabling them to provide a CRB checking service to various external organisations at competitive rates.
Since it began in May 2007, nearly 500 requests for checks have been handled, with over 30 specified service users.
Town Clerk John Harrison said: “It is crucial that businesses, voluntary groups and other organisations check staff thoroughly before hiring them.
“For the past five years, the town council’s CRB checking service has played a significant part in helping employers to ensure that we have a safe and secure third sector in Hailsham and surrounding areas.
“We look forward to supporting these sectors through the service and providing further guidance throughout 2012 to 2013 and welcome any new enquiries from organisations.”
