CRB checks enter fourth year in Hailsham

A SERVICE set up by Hailsham Town Council to check the suitability of potential employees, volunteers and people working with children or vulnerable adults, has now reached its fourth year in operation, having helped a number of local companies and voluntary organisations in Hailsham and surrounding areas.

Hailsham Town Council acts as a registered Umbrella Body with the Criminal Records Bureau (CRB), enabling them to provide a CRB checking service to

various external organisations at competitive rates. Since it began in May 2007, over 400 requests for checks have been handled and 370 disclosure certificates have been issued, with over 30 specified service users.

Town Clerk Liz Jones said, “It is crucial that businesses, voluntary groups and other organisations check staff thoroughly before hiring them. Hailsham Town Council has, over the past four years, promoted the safeguarding of vulnerable people by offering a certified, low-cost CRB checking service for our clients. We welcome any new enquiries from organisations in the future.”

Any new organisations who may wish to use the service are welcomed. Basic, standard and enhanced disclosures can be provided and processing is hassle-free, taking approximately 4-5 weeks to complete. Support and guidance on the CRB application process and an identity checking service are also offered as part of the service.
