An elderly horse was rescued in Wannock last week after it got stuck down a bank.

Crowborough’s specialist Animal Rescue Unit was called upon to assist the elderly horse after it became stuck halfway down a bank in Wannock, a spokesman for East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said.

The spokesman continued: “The unit includes an off-road Land Rover, as well as a purpose-built Mercedes four-by-four Unimog off-road appliance, designed to provide assistance with animal rescues.

“This is fitted with a hydraulic crane capable of lifting farm animals from open water and ditches.

“The team worked alongside Eastbourne firefighters to bring the horse to safety.”

The horse was rescued at 7.38am on Wednesday February 18.
