Family evacuated from burning Newick home

Police were called to a fire at a house in Allington Crescent, Newick, at 7.30am today (Thursday December 27).

A woman and man and two children, aged eight, were evacuated from the house while East Sussex Fire & Rescue officers extinquished a fire in the porch, which had caused damage to the outside of the house.

DC Richard Holder said: “Fortunately no one was injured and they were safely evacuated from the house.

“I am appealing for witnesses who may have seen anyone acting suspiciously in the area from about 7am.

“They are urged to contact police on 101 quoting serial 0211 27 December or the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”

A 34-year-old local man has been arrested on suspicion of arson and is helping police with enquiries.
