Those seeking their festive fun in the pubs and clubs of Wealden district are being warned to behave or risk a Christmas and New Year ban.

That’s the message from the licensees signed up to the Wealden Pubwatch scheme who will be dealing with those who can’t enjoy themselves safely and legally with action ranging from a warning letter to a six-month ban from all premises.

Members have access to an on-line information sharing site and can alert each other to problems via a text message facility.

“No-one wants to be barred from pubs and clubs over Christmas and the New Year, so the message is please drink and behave responsibly,” said PC Martin Theelke, licensing officer for the Wealden neighbourhood policing team.

“Wealden police facilitate the meetings, but the members make the decisions, sharing valuable information with each other.

“We have active Pubwatch groups in Crowborough, Hailsham and Uckfield and they are all committed to making their towns and surrounding villages safe for people to socialise in.”
