Horder Healthcare which runs the orthopaedic care charity The Horder Centre, Crowborough, is shortlisted for a leading energy efficiency award for its green-friendly redevelopment project. The five year scheme aims to improve energy efficiency by reducing carbon emissions and more effective waste management. Since it started two years ago, carbon emissions have reduced by 21.5%, electricity and gas consumption cut by 19% and 9%, clinical waste reduced by more than 40% and untaxed diesel use decreased by 100%.
The Centre now recycles all its cardboard and shredded waste paper which means the equivalent of 270 trees have been saved since the project began. The initiative was been shortlisted for the Health Service Journal’s Energy Efficiency category in their annual efficiency awards for NHS organisations.
