'Excellent' - Jilly's verdict after sampling cup cakes

Food and wine TV presenter, writer and Ashdown Forest resident Jilly Goolden took time out from her ‘blackcurrants with hints of slate’ tastings to judge cup cakes in Crowborough.

Last Wednesday, Jilly, famous for colourful and complex descriptions of the wine she is sampling, brought her expert tastebuds to bear on cakes baked by staff and friends at the Warren Drive Residential Care Home in Fielden Road.

Helen Hawthorn, from Warren Drive, said residents helped Jilly choose the winners and also enjoyed sampling some of the delicious cakes baked by talented staff.

Helen said she asked Jilly to come along as she is known for her elegant palate and lives not a stone’s throw from Crowborough. She said: “Although she is better known for tasting wine her refined taste buds were perfect for our cup cake challenge. She hosts wine tasting at the wine room in her home and we all loved her on the television.”

For 18 years Jilly co-presented the BBC2’s Food and Drink TV series with Chris Kelly, Michael Barry and Oz Clarke. She has also presented The Great Antiques Hunt and Going, Going Gone as well as appearing in I’m A Celebrity....Get Me Out of Here and Celebrity Masterchef. She has written several books on wine and food which have all reached best-seller lists and performed live on stage.
