A ‘gerbil grotto’, live donkey, edible Christmas goodies, cards, ornaments and even Father Christmas helped convert a working college into a winter wonderland last Saturday.

Uckfield Community Technology College’s Christmas Indulgence Fair is organised by the college’s Parent Teacher organisation and takes place annually to raise money for vital college projects. Some stalls were run by teachers, some by students themselves and some by parents and family members.

Principal Hugh Hennebry was helping to organise a family photographic portrait session which drew long and enthusiastic queues.

Father Christmas met good children in his grotto – his first visit to Uckfield before tonight’s late night shopping sessions.

There were animals, a welcome barbecue and a visit by Black Pig Orchards, local apple and pear juice and cider producers.

A total of more than £5,000 was raised.
