Cycle route between Falmer and Brighton to be improved

GOOD news for cyclists commuting to and from Lewes - Brighton City Council has a whole range of improvements planned between Falmer and The Level.

It has a whopping £4.2m of transport funding which will be spent on Lewes Road and the surrounding areas.

The proposals should make it safer for commuter and leisure cyclists who use this major route.

Improvements include:

Introducing a bus and cycle lane in both directions on the dual carriageway section of Lewes Road between the Vogue Gyratory and the A27 bypass at Falmer.

Providing improved facilities for cyclists and pedestrians at the Vogue Gyratory.

Improving the junctions at Saunders Park View and Coombe Road.

Widening the shared cycle and pedestrian path next to Lewes Road north of Coldean Lane.

Providing an enhanced cycle and pedestrian network in the north of the area with improved signs.

Extending the 30mph limit northwards to the A27 Falmer interchange.

Amongst the benefits for cyclists will be less conflict between bicycles and cars, as bike lanes will either be introduced, widened or cars will beprevented from parking in bike lanes.

The council is consulting on the proposals from April 16 to Friday May 25.
