Cyclist receives serious head injuries in South Chailey collision

SUSSEX Police and emergency services were called to a collision between a car and a cyclist on the A275, Markstakes Lane, South Chailey this morning (January 4).

A Ford Mondeo car driven by a 50-year-old woman from Scaynes Hill was in collision with a bicycle ridden by a 74-year-old man from Haywards Heath at around 8.45am.

The cyclist was taken by air ambulance to Kings College Hospital, London suffering from serious injuries to his head and body. The driver of the car was uninjured.

It is thought that the injured cyclist was riding with a group of others and was turning into Markstakes Lane when the collision took place.

The road was closed for two hours while the injured man was treated and the road was cleared. Police would like to thank drivers for their patience.

Police are appealing for witnesses and would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision. Please call 101 quoting Operation Riley.
