Dancing competition at Willingdon Community School

DANCEHOUSEUK is holding its biannual choreographic competition at Willingdon Community School tomorrow, April 9.

The competition forms parts of the link between DanceHouseUK, and national organisation U.Dance. The U.Dance programme, with the help of its member schools and clubs, aims to give every child and young person the chance to take part in a dance performance each year.

Natascia Mazzucato, principal of DanceHouseUK, has taken the idea beyond just performing, and uses this as an opportunity for students and dancers to choreograph their own performance pieces.

She said: ”It’s a great chance for students to take ownership of their own learning, and to add new elements that they may have seen elsewhere, or seen performed by others. It’s a great way to share and to showcase ideas, as well as gain the experience of selecting, choreographing, rehearsing and performing your very own work.”

Performers of all ages are invited to take part in this event, and can showcase any style of dance they choose, as soloists through to groups.

Anyone wishing to enter the competition, learn more about DanceHouseUK, or is interested in joining classes, should contact Natascia Mazzucato on 01424 843 546. Entry to the competition or to the performance is free.
