TALENTED youngsters from Uckfield’s Academy of Speech and Drama took part in An Afternoon of Performance at Belmont Hall last Sunday.

All the money raised was donated to Children with Leukaemia.

It was the brainchild of Academy principal and Ridgewood resident Nicola Martin, 29 who’s also running the London Marathon on April 17. Her efforts are dedicated to 11-year-old cousin Sean who was diagnosed with leukaemia over Christmas.

Sean is currently undergoing extreme chemotherapy.

Nikki said: “I would do anything to support him but he lives in New Zealand which means I have had to try and be there for him in other ways.

Children with Leukaemia is a wonderful charity and I feel privileged to have the chance to run the London Marathon for them and help stage this production.”

Young performers sang, danced and acted their way through scenes from books, films and shows including Hairspray, Alice in Wonderland, Educating Rita, The Lion King, Snow White, The Cuckoo Sisters, Cats and Oliver.

Children with Leukaemia was set up in 1987 after the death of Paul O’Gorman, 14 whose sister Jean also died of cancer nine months later.

The family met Diana, Princess of Wales who was so moved by the double tragedy she helped found the charity.
