Drivers faced long delays in both directions along the A27 at Falmer this morning (Wednesday January 9) as police negotiated with a man on the wrong side of the bridge barrier.

Drivers were Tweeting about how long it took them to get to their destination in rush hour, including one hour and 40 minutes from Hailsham to Lewes and an hour from Ringmer to Lewes.

The A27 eastbound at Hollingbury was closed at 6.40am and then reopened just after 7am and then the westbound lane at Falmer was closed along with Ditchling Road while police officers negotiated with the man.

He eventually agreed to go with the officers and was taken to hospital.

The westbound lane re-opened at 7.55am.

There was also a two vehicle shunt on the eastbound carriageway at Hollingbury. No one was hurt.

Police would like to thank all drivers and the public for their patience while the incident was dealt with.
