THE MARESFIELD fire and rescue service training centre on Batts Bridge Road hosts a public meeting at 2pm on September 11. It is being held so plans to merge East and West Sussex fire and rescue services can be discussed.
After research delivered a good business case for merging the two services, East Sussex Fire Authority and West Sussex County Council set up a consultation process. This runs until October 6 and the public meeting gives people the chance to hear how the combined service might work, make up their own minds and respond. Further meetings will be held on Tuesday, September 13 in Hove and Wednesday, September 14 in Eastbourne.
A report said the merger was the ‘best option to protect community fire and rescue services from the expected impacts of government grant reductions over the next few years’. Operational response would also be improved for residents and visitors to Sussex and Brighton and Hove.
