An Eastbourne driver was shunted from behind and then attacked in a daylight robbery.

The 29-year-old victim was driving a Mercedes van along Newhaven Road, Iford, near Lewes, having just made a delivery to the pub at Rodmell, at about 3.15pm on Saturday (June 4).

He told police officers he felt a shunt from behind as he approached the Old Vicarage bus stop and pulled over.

An old, white transit van pulled in behind him, before two men got out.

One of the men punched the victim in the head while the other took an envelope containing around £600 cash from the passenger side of his Mercedes. They then drove off towards Lewes.

The suspects are both described as white with dark hair. One was wearing a dark T-shirt, the other a dark long-sleeved top.

Detective Sergeant Bonnie Cowley said, “Fortunately the victim was not seriously injured but has understandably been left shocked by this incident. We would like to hear from anyone who saw something in the area to get in touch.”
