ALTHOUGH Uckfield is not on the official Olympic torch route the town was determined not be left out of the fun. Youngsters from several schools will take part in the Alternative Uckfield Torch Run starting at 10.30am on Tuesday, July 17 at the junction of London Road with the A272 near the Budletts Roundabout.

They will run along London Road, Uckfield High Street, New Town and Lewes Road to the Little Horsted roundabout with a rolling road closure as the event progresses.

The distance is 2.9 miles and each school has about 750 yards to cover. They can choose one child to run the whole distance or split between seven or eight. The Run is organised by the Uckfield Festival committee.

Schools involved are Uckfield Community Technology College – whose students are designing and making the torch (without a flame) – Manor, Rocks Park, Holy Cross, St Philip’s, Harlands and Little Horsted.
