Wallands Community school came together last Saturday to perform an outside promenade production of William Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Head teacher Debbie Gordon came up with this creative idea to introduce the children to Shakespeare’s work.

The majority of the cast and crew were made up from parents and children at the school. Deirdre Daly from Kaleidoscope Theatre company is a parent and the director of the show.

There are so many creative parents at Wallands, their collaborative vision of costume, hair, make-up, set design, music, meant that the 150 strong audience were in for a real treat, the many fairies and sprites took the audience from scene to scene with cries of “follow me, follow me” and the audience were moved with the air filled with bird song and flute.

The final scene in The Palace of the weddings underneath the canopy with the Samba band playing and the fireworks (provided by Nevill Juvinile Bonfire Society) going off was a fitting end of celebration to everyone’s hard work.
