Elderly woman frightened by burglars in Hailsham

AN ELDERLY woman was frightened by burglars at her home in Hailsham last night, January 12.

The 86-year-old heard a knock on the front door of her house in Stoney Lane and opened the door to find two men standing there.

One man forced his way into the home and pulled the telephone out of its socket. He also opened a writing bureau in the hall. Nothing is believed to have been stolen.

Police were called to the scene at 8.30pm.

Detective Sergeant Andrew Harbour said: “This was a very frightening attack on an elderly woman in her home and fortunately she sustained no major physical injuries.

“Officers are conducting house to house inquiries, viewing CCTV and forensic examinations are being carried out.”

One suspect was white, 5ft 10in in his late 30s to 40s, with a thin face and he wore a dark hooded top and bottoms.

The other suspect was also white, in his 20s and he had a dark top with an orange stripe running down both sleeves.
