A NEW extreme running event comes to Nutley on April 1.
REAPER is Rivers Earth and Pain Extreme Running, an adventure run over mud and obstacles and these races are becoming one of the world’s most popular pursuits.
Tickets go on sale for this first event at Pippingford Park.
race organiser Alex Farrell explained the growing appeal of extreme events: “Recreational running is becoming increasingly popular, not only for people trying to keep in shape, but also for those who enjoy being outdoors and challenging themselves.
“However, road running is now not quite enough for most runners, who want to push themselves further.
“Snowboarding was considered an extreme sport ten years ago, and now it is regarded as quite commonplace. Extreme running is gradually growing in popularity in the same way, as it pushes hardened runners to the test, while still being fun and adventurous.
“It helps you keep fit and active, while having a great day out getting muddy and a bit roughed up.”
The courses are far more than just an off-road run, and always include varied terrain, different surfaces, multiple obstacles and water.
Alex says they pride themselves on using as many natural challenges as possible: “We design the routes around the existing obstacles of the site, using hills, water-courses, tunnels, gulleys, woods and much more. This results in each track having a very different feel. We challenge our competitors at every point on the course, and ask ‘Can you race the Reaper?’”
The Reaper Route is about 8km in length with up to 20 obstacles to keep pushing you to the very end.
Entry is £35 per person, and every finisher receives goodies. To book tickets for their April 1 event at Pippingford Park and for more details about future events visit: www.reaperevents.co.uk or search for Reaper Events on Facebook.
