A biker from Seaford is organising a 140- mile motorcycle ride from Gloucestershire to Brighton in aid of Blind Veterans UK.

Falklands Veteran Eon Matthews, 55, is encouraging others to join him and other ride leader Trevor Scrase from Bexhill.

Eon helped the group to organise last year’s Ride for Life Beyond Sight Loss, the charity’s first motorcycling event.

He led a column of more than 60 bikers down to Brighton to raise awareness of vision impairment.

Eon said: “We’ve got more riders than we had last year and I asked Trevor to lead a second group down to Brighton. He will be leading one convoy of bikes and I will be leading the other.”

Eon was in the Royal Navy for more than 20 years.

He also sailed the last British military vessel out of Hong Kong after the territory was transferred to China.

Eon added: “Being a veteran, I’ve got friends and colleagues who have been helped by Blind Veterans UK and I know that they will be there for me if I lose my sight. That’s why I urge all motorcyclists, especially ex-military personnel who own bikes, to sign up.”

A place for Ride for Life Beyond Sight Loss on Saturday August 15 costs £15.

The event kicks off at Moreton-in-Marsh at 9am and ends with a barbecue at the Blind Veterans UK Brighton Centre later that day. Visit www.blindveterans.org.uk/bikeride or call Rachel Chitty on 01273 391455.
