The Merrie Harriers Bonfire Society will be lighting up the skies with its spectacular fireworks celebrations in Cowbeech, near Hailsham, on October 25.
In the past the celebrations have been choreographed to music and this year is no exception with the fireworks accompanied by a soundtrack of the best pop songs from recent years.
Organisers said despite the rising cost for fireworks, insurance, and food the entrance charge is still £5 and children aged 11 or under and accompanied by an adult will be admitted for free. The Fancy Dress and Pumpkin Competitions are free to enter and entrants will be welcomed from 6pm with judging starting at 6.30pm. There will also be a Hog Roast as well as a Barbeque and an on-site bar. The lighting of the bonfire will take place at around 7pm and the firework display at 8pm.The society also raises money for charity - it raised £7,400 in 2012/13.
A spokesman for the society said: “Like many Bonfire Societies we find it very difficult to cover the costs on the night but, with the help of volunteers from the wider Cowbeech community, it stages other events which are fortunately more profitable.”
The society is also launching a 2014 Calendar which features photographs of the Tug-of-War team and local personalities. It is hoped the calendar, priced at £6, will be available in time for the fireworks event.
