THE FIRLE Place Horse Trials and Country Fair on Bank Holiday Sunday, August 28, is celebrating its 35th year and offers a great day out for all the family.
The event, set in the lovely parkland surrounding the historic stately home, sees the addition this year of Have a Go Agility to the busy schedule of dog events.
Organiser Josephine Carr said: “We are delighted to be staging the 35th Horse Trials and Country Fair in the stunning setting of Firle Place – a setting which has changed little in those 35 years, except to become part of the new South Downs National Park.
“We have a very busy day planned, with lots for all ages to do, and offer some excellent retail therapy with a wide range of trade stands and farmers’ and craft stalls.”
The British Eventing-affiliated Horse Trials takes place over the whole weekend with each horse and rider combination competing in the three disciplines of Dressage, Show Jumping and Cross-Country.
There will be more than 500 competitors to watch go round the cross-country course, designed and built by Badminton Horse Trials course builders the Willis Brothers.
The competition will include some of the South East’s top event riders and Olympic hopefuls, including Pippa Funnell and Francis Whittington. The Country Fair gives visitors the chance to have a go at a diverse range of activities from archery to funfair rides, dog handling, showing and racing as well as having your tastebuds tantalised by the food market.
