THE SUSSEX flag was lowered outside the offices of Polegate Town Council in honour of a former Mayor’s funeral.
Cllr Gerald Carter died on July 15, as reported in the Sussex Express.
His funeral was held at St John’s Church at 1.30pm on Wednesday, August 1.
Afterwards there was a private burial and mourners gathered at the Red Lion pub in Stone Cross for a small function.
Town councillors have agreed to put up memorial plaques to remember Cllr Carter and also Cllr Roy Martin, another former Mayor who died at the end of May.
Records show, after painstaking research by Town Clerk Jo Ognjanovic, that Cllr Gerald Carter was first co-opted onto Polegate Town Council on September 21 1987.
