An Uckfield man will go on trial on Monday (July 6) over alleged sexual offences against two boys.
Christopher Howarth, 67 and retired, of Rocks Park Road, Uckfield, is due to appear for trial at Lewes Crown Court, charged with 19 offences, all alleged to have taken place in the Uckfield area.
The charges, authorised by the Crown Prosecution Service, followed an investigation started by specialist Sussex Police child protection detectives in 2013.
Police emphasise that there are no allegations of offending by Howarth against any other person.
Howarth faces charges of inciting a child under 13 to engage in sexual activity, causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, five of sexual activity with a child, three sexual assault on a child under 13, one of assault on a child under 13 by penetration and one of taking indecent photographs of a child.
There are further charges relating to another boy which include two of sexual activity with a child, two of sexual assault of a child under 13 and two of causing a child to watch a sexual act.
Until 2007 Howarth was deputy principal of Uckfield Community Technical College, and, until his arrest in December 2012, a lay priest at Holy Trinity CofE church in Uckfield.
