Free entry for spectators to second annual Lewes FC Bonfire Cup

ALL seven Lewes Bonfire Societies – plus Newick – will be at The Dripping Pan on Sunday competing in the second annual Lewes FC Bonfire Cup.

Matches start at 11am and entry is free for spectators all day. The draw for the day long football tournament was made at the last Lewes FC home game and the groups are as follows:

Group One: South Street, Cliffe, Borough and Southover. Group Two: Nevill, Newick, Waterloo and Commercial Square.

The team with best record from each group will play in a final at around 6pm.

Last year that match saw a tight game between Nevill and Cliffe – with Nevill’s younger legs shading it to win the trophy.

Ben Ward, speaking on behalf of Lewes CFC and also a South Street FC fullback, said: “The standard in some of the games is surprisingly high. In others it’s just brilliantly chaotic. Every match is a treat for one reason or another.

“It’s great to have all the societies coming together like this for a fun day of football. It’s what Lewes Community Football Club is all about!”

Sunday’s tournament promises to be a fun day out for the teams and spectators.
