CELEBRATIONS for the Queen’s Jubilee have progressed with the revelation of several events organised by Hailsham Town Council.
First on the agenda will be Hailsham in Bloom’s opening of the Jubilee Rose Garden by the Lord Lieutenant Peter Field at 10am on (Saturday) June 2. A guard of honour will be performed by the Air Training Corps.
Later that day families are encouraged to join in the Diamond Jubilee Town Fete from 1pm to 5pm on Western Road Recreation Ground. Eastbourne Pipe Band and Wealden Brass Band will be playing throughout the afternoon and there will be stalls organised by local organisations.
Terribly tempting cakes will be served by the Women’s Institute with coffee and tea in the cricket pavilion. Sizzling sausages and other treats have also been promised at a barbecue organised by Hailsham Lions.
Children will be entertained with face painting and balloon modelling, and games include tug-of-war.
The next Saturday (June 9) the High Street will close from 5am to 8pm for the return of the Charter Market (10am to 5pm). Entertainment will include stilt walkers, jesters, medieval musicians, and a circus workshop. Evening musical entertainment will be held, 7pm to 10pm, St Mary’s Church - featuring the Jazz Caverners and Wealden Brass Band. Tickets £5 per person with concessions (OAP/Child). Tickets will be available from the town council offices.
