There will be a number of activities taking place across Wealden this autumn for older people and if you have a group that could benefit from funding the council wants you to get in touch.
The beginning of October saw the celebration of Older People’s Day.
Now various groups are running arts and crafts, information fairs, afternoon teas, quizzes, yoga sessions and table tennis for the older generation throughout the autumn.
Wealden District Council has been running its successful Active 4 Life sessions at its sheltered housing schemes for a number of years. These are open to non-residents and provide dance and movement sessions or yoga activities and are currently available at Westham.
Wealden’s Community Grants Scheme has also been supporting various older peoples’ groups to organise outings, by offering help for transport, health, exercise and social care activities. Hailsham and District Branch Parkinsons UK, received funding support for weekly exercise sessions at Freedom Leisure, Hailsham, for a year.
Wealden’s Community Grants Programme is currently open for applications. Grants of between £500 - £3,000 are being offered through the Wealden Small Grant Scheme and the Capital Grants of between £1,000 - £10,000 are also available. If your group needs funding, contact the council’s team on 01323 443520. The programme closes on November 30.
