A big-hearted family man and talented golfer will be the subject of a massive fundraising effort from Sedlescombe Golf Club next weekend.
Paul Lawrence, 32, is facing a serious battle against bowel cancer after beating the disease once already.
In 2013 he had radiotherapy and chemotherapy and in January 2014 part of his bowel was removed.
However, the cancer levels crept up and now Paul faces further chemotherapy and a very serious operation in January 2015.
Paul will lose the ability to have children so has stored some sperm in London so he can extend his family.
“Luckily last year just after the radiotherapy my wife Chelsea fell pregnant with our first child, Hannah Roseanne Lawrence, a beautiful healthy girl.
“It was a good thing to come out of a bad thing.
“The doctor told me I face as big an operation as the human body can stand.”
Paul will spend four to six weeks in hospital after the operation and around 12 months off work with no financial help.
He said: “I’ve stayed positive all the time and I will not let this beat me. I’ve got a 14-week daughter at home and she smiles at me every morning and that just keeps me going.
“I want to thank James Andrews and lee Salmon and others who have pulled strings to get a lot of quality items for the auction.
Sedlescombe Golf Club are using their annual Ryder Cup Golf Day on October 4 to raise money to help pay for his living costs while he undergoes treatment and so that his daughter can stay with him in the hospital accommodation that costs £60 a night while he has his operation.
The day is open to all and costs £10 for members and £30 for non-members with every penny raised going to Paul. Paul represented Sedlescombe Golf Club scratch team off a handicap of 5.
Companies can sponsor holes in return for putting a banner up and there will be an auction of some fantastic items including a signed shirt from Gareth Barry, signed golf balls from Luke Donald and a top of the range Calloway Golf Driver
James Andrews from Sedlescombe Golf Club who is organising the event said: “Paul is one of the best players in the club. He is a determined winner and a formidable match player.”
£2,500 has already been raised and the target is for a minimum of £10,000.
If you would like to donate send cheques made payable to Paul Lawrence to James Andrews at Sedlescombe Golf Club, Kent Street, Battle, TN33 0SD or visit Paul’s Just Giving page at http://www.justgiving.com/yimby/paullawrence
Paul’s Dad, Dave Lawrence said: “This is being done so he hasn’t got money worries while he fights cancer because you will not find anyone more positive than Paul in fighting the illness.”
