Students of Michael Hall Steiner School in Forest Row are putting on ‘Great Expectations’ by Charles Dickens at the same time as studying for their ‘A’ Levels.

Tickets are available from the school reception at: 01342 822275, Seasons, Forest Row or The Venue on The Green Charity Shop, Forest Row. They cost £7 for adults, £4 for concessions, children, students and OAPs and £18 for a family ticket for two adults and two children.
The production is being put on by the graduating sixth form students. Alongside national curriculum studies for GCSE and ‘A’ levels, Steiner pupils also take part in many forms of art and performance. This drama project is the culmination of twelve years of artistic and cultural work for them and is the final artistic project these pupils will take part in, before they take their ‘A’ levels this summer.
While involving direction from professionals and the generous support of a theatre set designer, this project is extraordinarily student led, with their ideas informing publicity, costumes, set and lighting.
This play was chosen by the pupils as they identified with the journey of self-discovery and growing up, which the main character Pip embarks on. It is a dramatic tale with strong characters and the performances are being relished by Michael Hall’s young thespians.
They are all totally committed to looking at ‘Great Expectations’ in a fresh and innovative way and these students give up much of their free time to the project, including the entire February half term which provided much-needed rehearsal opportunities.
The script is an adaptation of the book by Nick Ormerod and Declan Donnellan and was originally produced for the Royal Shakespeare Company.
The Michael Hall School is situated in Kidbrooke Park, Forest Row, East Sussex, RH18 5JA and everyone - including local residents - are most welcome to come along to any production.
