POLICE are appealing for witnesses following a burglary in Anglesey Avenue, Hailsham in the early hours of Monday (2 May).

The property was entered whilst the home owners were out at a nearby car boot sale. Items taken included an Amazon Kindle, an Apple Ipod and a Packard Bell laptop which contained the only photos of the home owners twin daughters.

The home owner said: “ We are deeply saddened by this whole experience but loosing all of the photos of our two daughters in their earliest years is by far the most upsetting. We would ask that anyone who has any information at all or if you know where our laptop is to contact police. We are desperate to get the laptop back for these precious memories”

Detective Sergeant Andrew Harbour of Wealden Burglary Unit said: “We are keen to speak to a man who approached the family at around 5.50am when they were setting off for the car boot sale. The man asked the family for a light and when refused he walked off in the direction of Hempstead Way.

“He is described as white, aged 18 to 23, of slim build and with fair hair. We are keen to speak with him as he may be a potential witness.

“All burglaries are very upsetting for those who are directly affected but it is even more so when sentimental and unreplaceable items have been taken. If anyone recognises the man who approached the family or knows the whereabouts of the stolen items please call Susssex Police on 0845 60 70 999 quoting serial 0743 of 02/05 or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
