Hailsham Army Cadets got the chance to experience life as a firefighter when they visited Eastbourne Community Fire station on June 13.
Five cadets from the No 19 Hailsham Platoon Sussex Army Cadet Force visited the station as part of their ACF (Army Cadet Force) training.
The cadets had the opportunity to try out various firefighting skills with the station’s Green Watch during their two hour visit.
This included using the foam branch, high pressure hose reel.
The cadets also got the chance to look over a fire appliance and the aerial ladder platform.
They were then taken on a tour of the station including the pole drops and followed the activities in the drill yard.
Crew Manager Bob Newton welcomed the cadets on arrival and started the visit with a talk on the brigade, including the many types of incidents attended on a regular basis as firefighters.
He said the station was pleased to host the event and hoped the cadets would have lots of ‘happy memories’ from their time at the fire station.
He said: “Our special guests had a wonderful evening with the watch.
“We were so pleased they had a great time.
“And went away with lots of happy memories of their visit.
“Green Watch is looking forward to handing over a DVD as a special present of all the 100 photographs taken during the evening visit.”
The Hailsham cadets are based in Victoria Road in Hailsham.
