Hailsham car park closure for works

Phase Two of Wealden’s Car Park Improvement Programme will begin at the end of October.

It is part of a five year maintenance programme to ensure that Wealden’s free car parks remain in good condition and benefit from improved technology such as low energy lighting and anti-graffiti signage.

Vicarage Field car park (Waitrose) in Hailsham will be closed from October 24 until October 25 for the work to be carried out.

The work involves resurfacing the car parks with a hard-wearing bitumen Tarmac, and the painting of new traffic control and bay marking.

Councillor Graham Wells, Cabinet member responsible for Asset Management said: “Wealden owns and manages 42 car parks in the District.

“Nearly all are free at the point of use which provides a tremendous service for our residents, visitors and local businesses. We try to ensure closure for essential maintenance is for a short a period as possible, and apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.”

Other car parks to be closed for the works include: Groombridge Memorial Hall Car Park - closure October 28-29, Hartfield Road Car Park, Forest Row - closure October 31. Lower Road Car Park, Forest Row - closure November 5-6.

Visit the Car Park Information page of the Wealden website at www.wealden.gov.uk or the Wealden Car Park Status page for up-to-date information on car park closures.

The work also involves gully emptying and drain clearance to avoid any build up of surface water.

Car parks in Crowborough benefitted from Phase One of the scheme.
