THREE MEN arrested in connection with the rape of a teenage girl from Hailsham have had their police bail cancelled.
The girl walked alone in playing fields near Harrow Lane, St Leonards, when she was raped on January 14.
Police at the time said two men approached the girl and one punched her to the ground. Then he held her down while the other raped her.
A 25-year-old man and two men, both aged 20, all from St Leonards, were arrested on suspicion of rape and given police bail ending yesterday (March 24).
But the bail has been cancelled so no further action has been taken against the suspects at this time - they are no longer under arrest.
This does not necessarily mean that they have been eliminated from the enquiry, police said.
Detective Chief Inspector Trevor Bowles of Sussex Police Major Crime Branch said: “This remains an active enquiry and we are currently following up a number of leads.
“Anyone who has any information that may assist is asked to contact us via 0845 60- 70 999 quoting Operation Marlow, or they can call independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
