Sgt Andy Smith, from Polegate Roads Policing Unit, said: “Most road traffic collisions are traumatic for those involved but when a driver fails to stop at a scene and help the injured person, it is all the more appalling.
“We are hoping to establish the type of vehicle that struck the man.
“But in the meantime, we would like the driver of a blue Escort van that was seen in the area at the time of the incident, to please get in touch.”
