Hailsham Library is set to get a revamp when the next phase of a county wide multi-million pound refurbishment project begins.
The library, on Western Road, will be partially and temporarily closed until May 14 for the works which are part of East Sussex County Council’s multi-million pound library improvement project.
The facility will be redecorated and a new carpet laid which the county council said would cause some minor disruption to services.
From April 28, the library will operate from the ground floor only while work on the first floor and staircase is completed. During this period there will be a reduction in the number of public computers and the selection of non-fiction books available.
The car park will be closed on April 28 to allow workmen access.
The first phase of the work is expected to be completed by May 3.
From May 6 to May 13, Hailsham Library will be completely closed to the public while the project is completed. Cllr Chris Dowling, the county council’s lead member for community services, said: “The redecoration of the library is part of a major countywide project to improve the service for residents and is further demonstration of the county council’s investment and commitment to libraries.
“We hope disruption will be kept to a minimum and apologise for any inconvenience this work will cause, but I am sure library users will be delighted with the final result - a great library with a fresh look.”
Residents will still be able to access library services during the closures through the e-library which can be accessed by visiting www.eastsussex.gov.uk/elibrary.
There is also a dedicated phone line for residents to call if you need to book a renewal or have an enquiry.
Residents are also able to visit other libraries in the area while the works are carried out.
Cllr Dowling added: “With so many ways of accessing the wide range of services offered in libraries, we hope that the impact of a week-long closure will be lessened.”
Hailsham Library is expected to reopen on Wednesday, May 14.
