The Mayor of Hailsham, Cllr Jo Bentley, has released her New Year message to residents.

She said: ““I hope that you all had a pleasant Christmas break and spent an enjoyable New Year with friends and family.

“2015 is upon us and the New Year traditionally denotes a new start – an opportunity to begin afresh and strive to do even better. For me personally this is an exciting time, as I look forward with expectancy and anticipation to what 2015 has to offer our wonderful town.

“The past few years of economic struggles have presented all of us – in every family, in every neighbourhood – with unprecedented challenges and difficult decisions.

“2014, like the year before, will be remembered for financial pressures and the gradual recovery of our economy. Whilst the economic situation is on the upturn, my thoughts are still with those who are starting the New Year concerned about job security, household bills and mortgage repayments.

“January and February are almost always difficult months in this respect and I would encourage anyone experiencing financial pressure to seek advice from their bank or the Citizens’ Advice Bureau.

“The town council too faces additional financial challenges in 2015, and we have been working hard over the past few months to make significant improvements to our services to you.

“We are currently working towards finding better and more efficient ways to carry out our activities and make frontline operations as efficient as possible. Like many town and parish councils across the country we are committed to making whatever savings we can, without having a detrimental effect to the services being provided to you by the town council.

“While the hardships of previous years will likely continue into 2015, I am proud of where Hailsham is today and the town council will further involve our community groups, local businesses and residents.

“I am looking forward to the remaining few months in my current term of office as Town Mayor, feel honoured to serve and represent the people of Hailsham and look forward to meeting and greeting many new faces, groups and organisations at future civic engagements.

“On behalf of the town council, may I wish you all a very happy, healthy and peaceful 2015.”
