THE MAYOR of Hailsham visited the preview evening of Sussex Oakleaf’s Art Exhibition which is part of Hailsham Arts Festival’s Open Studio Trail.
Nine artists from the area are exhibiting at the Old Chapel for the week.
The art work in this exhibition has been created using different media. Some people create the art work as a way of expressing themselves.
Others find it therapeutic and some create work as their profession. Many do all three.
Statistics say one in four people will experience a mental health difficulty in our lifetimes.
A Sussex Oakleaf spokeswoman said: “The challenges are as varied as we are individual; each person will have their own way to get through the crisis and recover control over their lives.
“Art can play an important role for some.
“Sussex Oakleaf offers a safe space for people to come and socialise; to meet others who have been through similar experiences; and build back confidence and self esteem.
“The Community Links service works 1:1 with people who feel ready to face the world again and get involved with activities in the wider community such as leisure, education, faith, voluntary work.”
