A man injured in a fire at a nail bar in Hailsham is still in a critical condition and has been put into an induced coma, police have said.
Emergency services were called to Hollywood Nails in the High Street at 5.17pm on March 4 where a man, baby, and woman were found with burns following a fire in the flat above, which had been put out, police said.
On Wednesday police said the 51-year-old man, who is being treated as a suspect of assault, was still in a critical condition and in an induced coma in the Queen Victoria Hospital in East Grinstead.
Police said the 21-year-old woman has been discharged from Queen Victoria Hospital while the five-month-old baby boy remains in hospital in Brighton where he is recovering from his injuries.
Initially the baby was taken to Bristol Royal Infirmary, following the incident.
The man was initially taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton. He was then transferred to the Queen Victoria Hospital where he was treated for life-threatening burn injuries.
The High Street was closed to traffic while forensic teams moved in to try and establish what had happened.
Speaking last month Chief Inspector Mark O’Brien said: “While we have ruled out the involvement of anyone else in this incident, the information we have so far has led us to treat the man as a suspect in an assault investigation.
“He has not been arrested as he remain criticially ill in hospital.
“We are working with colleagues to establish the circumstances.”
Forensic and crime scene work was completed at the scene as well as a search of the property.
Speaking last month CI O’Brien said: “There has been an enormous amount of speculation and officers are now undertaking local enquiries to discover the true facts of the incident.
“We would like to hear from anyone who may have witnessed anything in the time leading up to the fire.
“The man and woman are understood to be of Vietnamese origin and may have been in the street beforehand.
“If they were and you saw them, you have any CCTV from around the shop or any other information relating to the incident, please email or call police.
“I would like to thank the local community for their patience and support while this continues.”
