Older people living in Hailsham will be recognised with their own special day in October.

There will be walks, talks, crafts and quizzes as East Sussex County Council celebrates Older People’s Day 2013.

The national event is designed to celebrate the contributions and achievements of older people and in East Sussex this year’s theme is ‘joining in. The day is supported by East Sussex County Council and an events programme booklet is now available from libraries or for download.

On October 4 from 10.30am – 1pm in Hailsham people can celebrate with Home Group at Busheyfields in Western Road with an afternoon of fun, including flower arranging demonstrations and cream teas. There is also an activity open day with Freedom Leisure Hailsham where participants can try out a range of activities including Boccia, New Age Kurling and chair-based exercises.

Cllr Bill Bentley, East Sussex County Council’s cabinet member for adult social care and older people’s champion, said: “We are delighted to be supporting this annual event.

“Older People’s Day is all about celebrating older people and there is a wide range of events to mark the occasion.”

A programme of events is available to pick up from local libraries or download from www.eastsussex.gov.uk/olderpeoplesday
