We kept in the Mid-Sussex League title hunt with a 2½-2½ home draw against defending champions Brighton & Hove, although it is unlikely to be enough in the long run as we must now rely on Brighton to concede at least a drawn match somewhere else. Wins for Francis Rayner and Howard Tebbs, a draw from John Sugden, and Ollie Willson and Paul Kelly going down.
Our seconds lost 3½-1½ at home to Worthing firsts: Paul Kelly won, Mel Young drew, but Ollie Willson, Andrew Fleming and Jim Wheeler all lost.
And in their turn the fourths lost 3-2 away to Worthing thirds: Daniel Lowe won, there were draws from Derek Cosens and Robert Smart, losses from Gary Willson and Michael Dean.
The Kent League home crunch v Maidstone was postponed, the visitors saying they could not raise a team, something we are hearing too often in local chess at the moment.
