At the Taplin Centre on July 23, Jakey (G3JKY) gave an entertaining talk on his own personal field day memories which took everyone in the club back to the early days of amateur radio in the United Kingdom.
He presented a home built 70cm radio transceiver which was used for the first time at a Clifton Club field day in 1959 as well as an ex-RAF receiver of 1965 vintage and explained how he once worked 35 Japanese stations consecutively on the 50MHz band which in the context of today’s Amateur Radio is quite an achievement.
On Saturday, July 26, the club held its Summer Auction at the Holy Redeemer Church Hall in St Leonards which was well attended and resulted in an auction room full of enthusiastic bidders excited at being able to obtain used electronics equipment for a very good price.
There will be another interesting talk given on August 27 by one of the club’s resident electronics wizards, Rodney, who will be giving a presentation on the subject of Electronic Components and Circuit Assessment. The general public is invited and always welcome to attend the Taplin Centre on the night. The club will be open around 7.30pm.
