Members of the Uckfield Inner Wheel and Uckfield Rotary Club found out more about a life-changing local charity earlier this month.
Anne Blight, founder of the Starfish Project, talked about the work being done which has helped more than 1,500 adults overcome severe stammering problems and allowed them to take control of their speaking voices.
Anne spoke at the Rotary Handover evening in June, when members had been very impressed with what they had heard. They felt there was clearly much more to discover about the work of the Project, and members were keen to hear more.
As Anne had already been booked to speak at the Inner Wheel meeting, Inner Wheel President Yvonne Linthwaite invited Rotary members to join them at the meeting to hear more from Anne about the training and support offered to those who attend the Project’s courses.
The evening was also attended by people who had benefited from the work done by the charity and members were able to talk to them about the way the scheme works.
Yvonne presented Anne with a cheque representing proceeds from the sale of knitted goods held at the Rotary Handover evening. Joint events organised by the two clubs in coming months will raise funds for the Project as well as each club’s charity account.
The first such event is likely to be a quiz, to be held on November 29 with tickets costing £8 each. Details will be available from members of both clubs.
