A well-known wildlife charity is after your vote this month in a bid for to win the top prize of a care pack worth £500 to go towards its work in rescuing hedgehogs.
East Sussex Wildlife Rescue Ambulance Service, which was founded by Trevor Weeks MBE, has entered the Ark Wildlife Hedgehog Heroes Big Giveaway competition for October, which seeks to give away £2,500 worth of hedgehog speciality goods overall.
Trevor said. “Please vote for East Sussex WRAS. We rescue more than 600 hedgehogs a year and giveaways like this make a huge difference to our ability to expand and take in more hedgehogs. We use a lot of hedgehog food and our hedgehogs always like Ark Wildlife’s hedgehog biscuits and hedgehog mix on their food, and often helps encourage them to eat, too.
“We are building up to the busy autumn and winter seasons where we can get in hundreds of hedgehogs and often overwinter more than 130 hedgehogs, costing £130 each.”
The competition asks for animal lovers to nominate and vote for those who take in sick and injured hedgehogs by visiting www.arkwildlife.co.uk/heroes
The company runs the giveaway in October because it is the busiest time for hedgehog rescue.
Sean McMenemy, director of Ark Wildlife, said, “We know from all the letters we receive what a huge help the donations make at this busy time of the year. As well as financially helping the carers, last year’s event reached more than 100,000 people and resulted in hundreds of additional orphan hedgehogs being brought into care, young hedgehogs which otherwise would not have survived.”
