A TREE on the line has been causing problems on the trains between Haywards Heath and Lewes via Plumpton in both directions.

There have been problems elsewhere across Sussex due to high winds, trees have been blown onto railway lines and there is flooding in some areas.

As a result, lines are blocked in the following areas:

Between Horsham and Barnham in both directions (now open but subject to delays)

Between Havant and Southampton in both directions

Between Purley and Caterham in both directions (now open but subject to delays)

Between Rye and Ashford in both directions (now open but subject to delays)

Between Haywards Heath and Lewes via Plumpton in both directions

Between Barnham and Chichester (Westbound only)

Train services due to operate on these routes may be delayed, diverted or cancelled at short notice.

Delays up to 50 minutes can be expected.

A spokesperson for Southern said: “We apologise for the inconvenience this is causing and we are working with Network Rail to tackle these issues as quickly as possible in what are extremely challenging conditions.”
