Bexhill and Hastings Lions clubs have announced a special event that gives runners a once in a lifetime opportunity by taking part in a 10k run on the new Bexhill to Hastings Link Road prior to it’s opening next year.
The Bexhill to Hastings Link Road (BHLR) is set to open in May next year and Bexhill Lions Club President Richard Winrow said the Lions are proud and excited to announce a special ‘one off’ event for 2015, adding: “The Opportunity to run a 10K on the New Bexhill Hastings Link Road, just prior to its opening in May 2015, will be very popular, and prove to be a unique experience, before traffic starts using the New Road.
“It’s a great opportunity for locals to have the experience run the road and have a bit of fun.”
Richard said, though plans are yet to be finalised it’s anticipated that the run will consist of five miles from Bexhill to Hastings and five miles back.
Eric Hardwick M.B.E. Race Director. Hastings Half Marathon/BHLR 10K, Hastings and Bexhill Lions Clubs said the Lions are grateful to Hochtief Taylor Woodrow JV, who are building the BHLR for East Sussex County Council, for giving permission for the run. Hochtief Taylor Woodrow JV (HTWJV) are also sponsoring the project. Mr Hardwick said: “The BHLR will bring major economic benefits to the area, including 2000 new homes, 3000 new jobs, over £1 Billion of economic benefits and the development of 42 acres of land in North East Bexhill including a 50,000 square metre business park.
Richard Wall Morris of HTWJV said: “We are very proud of our new road, and pleased to see this special event take place as part of our Opening Celebrations, and to see all monies raised from the event go back into the community.”
As the completion date of the BHLR has yet to be revealed, the date for the historic 10k run will be announced early in the new year.
