The NHS is appealing for people to join the organ donor register to help the 66 people in East Sussex waiting for an organ.
Figures show 29 patients in East Sussex have died while on the transplant waiting list during the past five years.
A total of 44 patients in the county received a transplant this year thanks to families agreeing to donate a loved one’s organs.
NHSBT specialist nurse in organ donation Jenny Greening said: “Organ donors save or improve the quality of life of seriously ill patients. “For many patients a transplant is the only option left and their life depends on families agreeing to donate.
“I urge people in East Sussex to join the NHS Organ Donor Register and to tell those closest to them their decision.”
Visit www.organdonation.nhs.uk or call 0300 123 23 23 and tell those closest to you that you want to donate.
