The Jolly Sportsman pub in East Chiltington, which has been a magnet for food lovers across Sussex in recent years, is up for sale.

Current owners Bruce and Gwyneth Wass are selling due to retirement. Bruce, a chef for 20 years in London, opened Thackeray’s Restaurant in Tunbridge Wells in 1984 which proved to be highly successful.

In 1998 he bought The Jolly Sportsman at a time when the country hostelry was taking less than £2,000 a week.

It has been  transformed into one of the best places to eat in Sussex, and is featured in most major food guides.

With the benefit of proven sales of £520,000 per annum net of VAT, the freehold interest is on the open market with a guide price of £750,000.

It is being marketed through the Brighton office of Fleurets. For further information call 01273 429500 or visit www.fleurets.com
